A Mombasa court has, ordered for a 14-day detention period of a couple over the alleged killing of the woman’s second lover

Officers drawn from the Anti-terro police Unit had sought for the custodial orders to enable detectives complete investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Alex Chivunde.

According to the investigating officer, Police Constable Agatha Egwa, the police sought for orders to have the two, Moses Arodho Obura and Jennifer Mumbua, detained pending conclusion of their investigations.

In her sworn affidavit PC. Egwa stated that she was undertaking Investigations in a case of murder where Obura and Mumbua are accused of the murder of Chivunde contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code.

That on the night of May 2, 2026, the two suspects while on their way from a video room to watch a football match between arsenal and Fulham to Obura’s house they met the deceased.

That when the deceased who was the current Mumbua’s boyfriend confronted them to find out whether they were in a passionate relationship, Obura became violent informing Chivunde that he and Mumbua had been in a romantic relationship for the last three months.

That a conflict ensued between the two boyfriends and the deceased was brutally assaulted before was dumped outside the main door of his house.

That the deceased was later discovered and rushed to a private health facility, Patema clinic,in critical condition. He was later referred to the Coast General Hospital where he succumbed to the injuries while receiving treatment.

The matter was later reported at Shelly Beach police station and booked under OB number 10/03/05/2026

PC. Egwa further told the court that Anti-terror detectives were yet to forward the mobile phones of the two suspects for forensic analysis and extract, text and wassup messages from their mobile phones hence required additional time.

The court however ordered the duo be detained at Likoni police station pending completion of police investigation.

The court further ordered the police to give good care to the the second accused person who is pregnant.

The matter will be mentioned on May 23, this year for plea taking.
