A bright student from a needy family who was among the top candidates in the 2023 KCPE from Malungoni Primary School in Kwale is appealing for help to join secondary school.

Ngowa Kennedy Nyawa from Milalani village in Mkongani ward scored 341 marks and was set to join Kwale High but is still at home even as the first term of the school calendar comes to an end next week

According to Nyawa’s parents, they have been unable to enrol him in Form One due to the biting poverty in the family.
They are both casual labourers and their son has been forced to do menial jobs to support his parents.

Nyawa who wants to become a banker in future says that his father’s meagre earnings were used to feed the family of eight.

“I’m currently living with my peasant parents, who have been up and down trying their best to get money from well-wishers to take me to school,” Nyawa told Al Shifaa Media Kenya reporters.

His Mother said recently, she managed to raise her son’s plight with the area Member of the County Assembly who gave her ksh.4,000.

The mother added that she was also given a pledge by the area ward administrator that he would assist in paying the fee for the first term if the boy managed to report to school.

Nyawa is now appealing to well-wishers to offer him a scholarship since his parents are not able to pay for his secondary school education.

“All the other pupils who l attended school with have reported to their respective new secondary schools. I’m the only one remaining at home because my parents are poor. I pray for any kind of help”. He added.
