Police in Likoni Mombasa County have intensified their crackdown on criminal gangs suspected of terrorizing residents.

According to police, the ongoing crackdown has led to the arrest of nine suspects associated with the group known as “Panga boys”.

The nine suspects were nabbed in different areas within Likoni following an operation conducted by a multi-agency team comprising of area administration officers, and national police service officers drawn from Inuka and Vijiweni Police stations.

Further, the operation to flush out the suspects was backed up by officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations ( DCI) and a special team dubbed Alpha Mic 4.

The intelligence lead operation which began on April 13, 2024, in areas of Shikaadabu, Kibundani, Mwenza, Vyemani, and Vijiweni areas led to the arrest of the suspects namely, Ahmed Seif alias Dizo, Abdulah Omar alias Dula, Nasir Omar alias Nasoro, Mwinyi Kombo alias Teja boy, Salim Omar Seif alias Doraji, Salim Omar Iddi, Ridhaa Suleiman Mohamed and Hamisi Abdulah Makusanya alias Kaila.

“Dula” and “Nasoro’ have been alleged to have been involved in several other criminal activities some of which were reported at Vijiweni Police stations under OB numbers, 6/10/01/2024, 29/8/03/2024, 31/20/03/2024 and 14/9/04/2024, while “Kaila” a notorious suspect who operates within Mombasa and Kwale had his criminal activities reported at Mwangandu police station in Kwale county.

During the operation, assorted crude weapons, including six pangas, one long sword, one kitchen knife, nine mobile phones, one gas cylinder, one slasher, and one motorbike number plate with registration KMGJ 413W, were recovered from the suspects.

The nine suspects were arraigned before a Mombasa court on April 16 where they denied all the charges and released on bond as follows; Mwinyi Kombo alias Teja boy, released on a Ksh. 1.7M bond, Abdulah Hamisi alias Dula was released on Ksh.1.7M bond, and the rest were released on a Ksh.500,000 bond each.

The court ordered they be, remanded at the Shimo la Tewa GK prison.
