New information has surfaced regarding the tragic shooting at a police station in Kuria East, Migori County’ yesterday which resulted in the death of the sub-county police Boss.
Initial Police reports had indicated that S.P James Mugo Kabachia had shot himself while carrying out safety precautions within Kegonga police station.
That the superintendent of police had shot himself on the right leg moments after he was issued with a Barreata pistol by the in charge lines and Armory.
“It was reported by the in charge lines and Armory that while issuing Barretta pistol to Mr. James Mugo Kabachia S.P the SCPC Kuria East and while carrying out safety precautions within the station, he accidentally discharged one round of ammunition from the said pistol S/No A162337X injuring himself on the right leg thigh exiting on the right buttocks”. The Police report read in part.
However, DCI detectives have established that SP Mugo was shot by CPL Caudence Nyangenya, the in charge lines and armory while she was issuing him with a pistol. CPL Nyangenya is said to have at around 6:30pm accidentally tapped the trigger which discharged the fatal bullet as she was carrying out safety precautions.
The bullet hit him on the right leg thigh exiting through the buttocks. “It was reported by No. 228594 Cpl/w Caudence Nyangenya, the in charge lines and armoury that while issuing barreta pistols to Mr James Mugo Kabachia SP, the SCPC Kuria East, she accidentally discharged one round of 9mm ammunition while carrying out safety precaution. She injured him on the right thigh as the bullet exited through the right buttock” the new report read.
The police commander was rushed to Kegonga sub-county hospital before he was transferred to Migori county hospital for further treatment in critical condition. He was pronounced dead on arrival due to excessive bleeding. His body was preserved at the same hospitals morgue pending Autopsy. Investigation to reveal further details is ongoing.
