A likoni man has been charged with assaulting a 21-year-old girl for allegedly having a love afair with his son.

Abubakar Aboud Miji is accused to have on September 12 this year assaulted 21-year-old Amina Mohamed on suspicion that she was in a love affair with his son, who had allegedly gone missing.

The suspect, who appeared before Mombasa senior resident Magistrate Gladys Olimo on Wednesday, pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault causing gravious bodily harm.

The Office of the, Director of public prosecutions, (ODPP) had recommended Miji to be charged alongside his wife, Nasim Mafud Salim, with two offences including that of abduction.

In her letter dated October 21 2024 to Shelly Beach police station, prosecution counsel Nancy Cherop had ordered police to charge both the suspect and his wife with the offence of abduction contrary to section 250 of the penal code

“Having perused the file I find sufficient evidence to charge D1 (Abubakar Miji) with the offence of Assault causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 250 of the penal code and both D1 (Abubakar Miji) and D2 (Nasim Mafud Salim) with the offence of abduction contrary to section 256 of the penal code” the letter read partly.

During the plea taking, the court heard that on September 12 this year, the suspect alongside his wife forced the complainant into their car registration number KDE 544E outsude their home at Losajoy area while armed with a pistol over the whereabouts of their son.

The two then drove off with the victim to a place near Likoni police station where they held her hostage threatening to harm her if she did not admit and disclose the whereabouts of their son

Amina stated that she did not know the whereabouts of their said son.

That Miji later went inside Likoni police station, leaving the victim with the wife inside the car.

It has now emerged that Miji’s wife is yet to be charged despite the victim’s testimony to police having linked her to the abduction and assault ordeal or as per the ODPP’s directives.

It also still remains unclear when the other charges were dropped.

The suspect, who appeared before Mombasa senior resident Magistrate Gladys Olimo on Wednesday, pleaded not guilty to the charges of assault causing gravious bodily harm and was released on a kshs.50,000.cash bail

The matter will be mentioned on December 1, 2025.
