The man was apprehended after he tried to force his way through the screening area onto the ferry on the Island side.

According to a police report seen by Alshifaa Media group’s writer, Maseke Peter, the suspect, Salim Omar Gacheru, was approached by police officers from the ferry police station together with Ismax security guards to conduct a random search but resisted and brought a lot of commotion. Police were forced to use reasonable force to subdue him and upon search, it was established that he had an imitation of a firearm (Toy pistol) concealed underneath his Kanzu on the right hand of his waist.

Gacheru was immediately arrested and escorted to the ferry police station where he was identified as a resident of the Ushindi Baptist church area before being handed over to DCI officers for further interrogation.

Confirming the arrest, Likoni OCPD Geoffrey Ruheni said DCI officers are investigating if the man was involved in crimes in the area.

“The story the man is giving is not adding up and he shall be arraigned in court on Monday and charged for the offense of preparation to commit a felony contrary to Section 308(1) of the penal code,” said Ruheni.
