More than 100 school going children who have been undertaking training on understanding child rights and protection courses under the Right of Children Club (RCC) program have graduated today in a ceremony held in Likoni
The number brings to a total of 851 girls who have been trained this year under the program, sponsored by the Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) Organization, funded by Kennedy Odede
The programme, which targeted girls of between 8 to 14 years, began last year, and about 2700 children have so far benefited.
The trainings have been conducted at Rasoul Academy, Majengo Mapya primary, Oasis Academy, Ushindi Baptist, Furaha Academy, Mt. Olive, Southgate, among other schools where students were trained on violence against children, Harmful practices and cultural diversity, Children growth and development, Health and Hygiene, Child resilience and life skills, education, talent, hobbies and career choices and Environment and climate change.
The county Programme offer on Gender and inclusion, Fredrick Auma, who graced the graduation ceremony at the JCC Junior school in Mrima Likoni said the Programme was initially targeting about 10,000 girls but more 11,000 has since benefited due to the high demand by educational institutions.
Jackline Adhiambo, the in charge of the RCC programme and the senior Gender Case worker Mvita sub-county, advised parents to register their girls in schools so as to be able to benefit from the programme
Odhiambo added that they are also intending to extend the programme to Kwale and Kilifi Counties.
Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) is a Kenyan grassroots organization that transforms urban slums by providing critical services—including clean water, healthcare, education for girls, and economic empowerment.
The organisation (SHOFCO) works in partnership with local and international stakeholders to build sustainable change from within the community.
