A new wave of crime has hit Mombasa county, where armed robbers posing as passengers are targeting unsuspecting boda boda riders.

According to the detectives, the motorcycle stealing syndicate has been unearthed following the arrest of four suspects in parts of Mombasa and Kilifi counties.

DCI Detectives drawn from the Likoni police division have since revealed that the stolen motorcycles are later dismantled and their engines resold to boat operators.

According to detectives , they managed to arrest two suspects who are members of the syndicate and recoved a motorcycle that was in the process of being dismantled.

The suspects namely Kelvin Mlamba Mwachiponga alias.rasta and Yunus Ali Mohamed have since being ferried back to Likoni police station from Watamu in Malindi awaiting to be arraigned in court on today.

On May 15 lol this year, one of the victims, Juma Fujo, had reported to have been lured by one of the suspects who posed as a passenger seeking to be ferried to areas of Mzungu mchafu in Timbwani within Likoni sub county.

That upon arrival a group of armed men attacked and robbed him of his motorcycle registration, number KMFT 776X Hero Hunter which was moments later recovered at Ferry crossing channel following hot pursuit.

“Concerned members of the public alerted police officers who were on duty at the ferry island lock-up who managed to intercept the said motorcycle arresting the two suspects, Mohamed Mwinyi Mole 17, and Juma Mohamed Dzimwenga 24” “the police report reads in part.

The motorcycle was also recovered.

The duo are residents of the Ujamaa and Centi Kumi areas respectively.
