A suspect in the murder of two family members in Ujamaa village, Shonda location in Likoni sub-county has been arrested two days after going on the run.
Ali Abdallah Gatanga is currently detained at the Likoni police station awaiting his arraignment.
Police reports indicates that the suspects was yesterday around 2300hrs arrested at Manyatta area within Likoni while on his way to unknown destination.
“Following the murder incident reported on 29/05/2024, DCI officers commenced investigations and operation commenced today 30/05/2024 at around 2300hrs acting on tip off information the suspect namely Ali Abdallah Gatanga Kura aged 22 was arrested while on the run within Manyatta Likoni area heading to ferry directions to unknown destination” the report read in part.
What had started out as a normal day took a dark turn around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday when neighbours were alerted by the deceased’s househelp’s incessant crying.
Binti Musa, a househelp, described the chilling moment:
“Mimi nilikuja hapa kazi 3/05/2024 na Ali alikuja jumapili akiwa ametoroka kwao Matuga akitafutwa na wazazi wake. Siku ya tukio tuulikuwa sote wanne kwa nyumba Ali akaomba nyanya mswafu wa kuswalia akitaka kuswalia mahali wanawake wanaswalia, nyanya akamuuliza kwani leo utaswalia wapi Ali? Ndio akarudi akaenda sitting room, nilipochungulia nikamuona Ali amesimama ameegemea kwa ukuta huku akijidunga na kisu pole pole kwa tumbo kumbe alikuwa nacho kiunoni nasi hatujui. Nikaambia Auntie na nyanya kwamba Angalia Ali yuajidunga kisu, Auntie akaniambia mpigieni mamake umwambie aje amuongeleshe asije akajiumiza. Mm nikatoka nje kupiga simu. Ali aliposikia hivo akaja mbio na kuwauliza, mlikuwa nwaongea nini kunihusu hapa? Na kuanza kuwadunga visu, alipomaliza akanifuata nje nikipiga kelele nikakimbia nikaanguka kabla anifikie ikawa babake amefika wakaanza kung’ang’ana Kisha akatoroka kuelekea barabarani akiwa na kisu mkononi.Tukipoingia ndani tukapata nyanya na Auntie wamelala chini wamejaa damu mmoja seating room na mwingine karibu na kitchen.” Binti Narrated.
The suspect is said to have killed his Aunt and grandmother in the Wednesdays incident.
Armed with a knife, he is said to have brutally attacked 51-year-old Sira Bakari Kura before turning the weapon on the 80-year-old Binti Omar Kassim killing them on the spot.
Ali Gatanga was a former Kombani boys student who sat for his Kenya certificate of secondary education in 2022 (KCSE).
Neighbors say the suspect disappeared towards the main road while holding the killer weapon in his hand after the act.
The motive for the killings is unknown, leaving the family and community in shock.
