A Mombasa court has ordered ,for the arraignment of DCI officers drawn from the Anti-narcotics unit over claims of having received Ksh. 154,300 bribe to facilitate the release of a suspect arrested with Bhang worthy 3.8 Million.

Mombasa resident magistrate Green Opiyo Odera, issued the orders to the Investigating officer after the suspect, Victor Ochanda okuku alias Victor Odhiambo, informed the court that he had given out the alleged amount to secure secure his release.

The Investigation officer, PC Justus Kirwa of DCI Anti-narcotic Unit had informed the court that,the bribery allegations were under investigations by the officer commanding station a claim that the court failed to entertain.

” I hereby order the money to be given back to the suspect or the named officers to be produced before this court on May 28 this year.” Odera ordered.

Okuku informed the court that, upon his arrest he was escorted to an M-Pesa shop within ferry area, to withdraw the alleged amount which he later handed over to,the officers who had driven him to the shop

“After giving the officers the money, I was the following day informed that I would be arraigned before court to face the charges,when I demanded for my money, they declined and later arrested the employees of the mpesa where I had withdrawn the amount as away of concealing the act,” Okuku narrated.

In a twist of events the three employees of the mpesa shop ,namely Zacharia Ng’ang’a Gakumo, Prascidia Atieno Otieno and Faustin Mbula Mwambamba were later arrested and detectives applied to have the trio held for four days to allow police complete investigations .

The three were later released today with no charges preferred against them.

Okuku is accused of trafficking in narcotic drugs contrary to section 4(a)(ii) of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (control) Act.

The particulars being that on February 25, 2026 at Shelly Beach in Likoni sub-county within Mombasa county, Okuku trafficked by storing 127.75 kgs of bhang valued at ksh.3,832,500.

The matter will be mentioned on May 28 this year.
