Five suspects believed to be members of criminal gangs have been arrested in Likoni, Mombasa.
The five, Brian Musa 24, Abubakar Mahasi 20, Juma Kassim 16, Omar Gobeko alias Mboga 19 and Jackson Mwambu 26 were arrested at different parts in Duduz and Buffalo areas by officers from Shelly Beach police station following a crackdown on criminal gangs in Timbwani.
Recently there were concerns raised by members of the public on social media of the presence of an emerging criminal gang that was terrorising residents of Duduz, Buffalo and Magwangwani.
According to police reports, three machetes and a KDF smoke jacket were recovered during the ongoing operation.
Investigation to establish whether the five are also associated with other criminal activities that have troubled residents in Likoni and it’s environs has also commenced.
All the five suspects have been processed and ready to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges including robbery with violence, preparation to commit a felony and being in possession of government stores.
Likoni sub-county police commander Joseph Mutungi confirmed the arrest noting that an operation to flash out criminal elements in Likoni is ongoing.
