A family in Mshomoroni’s lighthouse area in Kisauni, Mombasa is among the affected parents living in fear after the disappearance of their 12-year-old child.
The family’s life has dramatically changed following the mysterious disappearance of Lucas Orina, a grade five pupil at Kongowea special school.
For over 40 days, Orina’s worried father, Joshua Orina Mwala, has been moving around searching for his young son
Mwala said his son was well until the age of five when he developed communication challenges.
The father of three has been posting regularly and consistently on social media about his son with the help of She Rises human rights organization hoping that he will soon reunite with him.
“I have been putting up posters on social media, hoping they will help me find my missing son. It has been difficult. The child is Autistic. I do not even want to imagine what could happen to him because he cannot speak” Mwala said
The minor was last seen on Tuesday, August 6, leaving his Uncle’s house near Msikiti Mkubwa in Mshomoroni where he had gone to play around 10:00am but did not reach home. He was wearing a black vest and green trouser featuring military green stripes.
Mwala reported the disappearance to Mjambere Police Station, but so far there have been no updates or leads
The father has appealed to the public to help locate his son and reunite with him as each passing day becomes more difficult for the family.
According to the founder and executive director of the human rights and community advocacy group, She Rises, Salma Hened recent reports had indicated an alarming spike in cases of missing children and teenagers in Mombasa.
She said local leaders and rights group reports revealed that approximately 13 incidents of children going missing have emerged from the region since August 2026
Hemed has now called on security agencies to treat these reports with absolute urgency rather than as routine missing-person cases, citing fears of targeted abductions, sexual violence, and potential child trafficking networks.
