US AID Kenya, in collaboration with the counties of the coastal community, have met in Mombasa county to come up with strategies that will help reduce gender-based violence in the coastal area. Led by David Gosney, who is the director general, the organization has been able to launch a program called USAID Sauti Yako, Amani Yako and USAID Elevate His Voice!
However, these programs are designed to bring together communities, national and county governments, and other development partners to strengthen the fight against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and violent extremism in Kenya. These aim to create safer and more stable communities across the country.
At a press conference earlier today, he said their plan is to ensure that all Kenyans live in an environment where they have equal educational, health and employment rights to avoid violence of any kind, on his part Francis Thoya who is the deputy county governor of Mombasa has said that they will give priority to the issues of the youth, laying the foundations on which the youth will have a voice in the community to strengthen good relations.
According to the Deputy Governor of Kilifi County Flora Mbetsa Chibule has said that the government of his county is ready to cooperate with USAID to ensure that they stop extreme violence in society; however, he has indicated that they will ensure that they increase resources in colleges so that young people can acquire skills that will help them empower themselves and live life peaceful. Mombasa county women representative Zam Zam Mohammed has mentioned that she will send a bill to parliament that will ensure protection of the young mothers who have given birth to children at a young age, as well.
