A middle aged woman from Maweche village in Likoni, Mombasa died hours after giving birth in a Midwife’s house.

Police said they had received information about the incident through a phone call by Bipopo Masudi, a midwife and rushed to the scene but when they arrived it was too late to save the situation.

Bipopo told the police that the deceased, Brenda Odhiambo, had today around 900hrs visited her home to seek help to give birth but unfortunately died of excessive bleeding after safely delivering to a baby boy.

‘It was reported by one Bipopo Masudi, a midwife through a phone call that she had today around 0900hrs received a client who was about to give birth and that she successfully helped her deliver her baby boy and that as she was still monitoring her , the client developed bleeding problem, unfortunately she succumbed before she could be taken to the nearest hospital’.

Upon arrival at the scene the police found Odhiambo’s body lying in a pool of blood.

The body was transferred to the Coast general hospital mortuary.

The newborn baby was taken to Mrima hospital for medication.
